UAE Digital Bank Deploys AI to Speed Up Accounts, Transactions for Millions

Digital bank integrates AI to streamline customer services while maintaining human oversight and data protection.

Ruya Bank’s customers, including the UAE’s entrepreneurs, small businesses, families and community members, are set to experience faster account openings, quicker transaction processing and round-the-clock service as the Ajman-headquartered digital bank deploys agentic artificial intelligence across its core operations through a new long-term partnership with enterprise AI company Magure.

Three agentic AI use cases developed by Magure have already moved into production at ruya. The technology targets two areas of immediate public relevance: business account onboarding and everyday transactions. For business customers opening accounts, the AI-supported process analyzes documents, conducts verification checks and prepares case summaries, freeing ruya staff to focus on decisions rather than administrative paperwork. Transaction workflows have been redesigned to process information more quickly and accurately. Critically, each workflow includes a human reviewer, and final decisions remain with people.

That human-oversight commitment is not incidental. The partnership is explicitly designed around expectations from the Central Bank of the UAE for responsible AI use by licensed financial institutions. Those expectations include board-level governance and accountability, transparency and explainability, human oversight of high-impact decisions and consumer protection. Ruya, licensed by the Central Bank as a Specialized Bank when it launched in 2024, operates within that regulatory framework as a Shari’ah-compliant institution.

Customer data protection sits at the center of the technical architecture. The AI infrastructure runs within ruya’s private cloud using open-source large language models integrated with the bank’s own systems. Personally identifiable information does not leave the bank’s infrastructure. Ruya retains ownership and control of its AI capability, an arrangement the bank describes as aligned with its commitment to data sovereignty.

Christoph Koster, CEO of ruya, put the public-facing ambition plainly in the announcement: “Our customers, the UAE’s entrepreneurs, SMEs, families and communities feel this as a bank that simply moves faster and knows them better. Accounts opened in a fraction of the time, transactions processed without delay, service that doesn’t sleep.” He also framed the bank’s broader intent: “We didn’t set out to run AI projects we set out to build a bank where intelligence is part of the foundation.”

What changed in the approach is the move away from isolated AI projects toward a single governed framework. Rather than building separate systems for individual banking functions, ruya and Magure are constructing one unified platform using Magure’s MagOneAI technology. That platform is intended to support AI applications spanning customer service, operations, risk, compliance and employee functions. The roadmap includes potential applications for collections, compliance, credit support, a customer AI assistant, personalization, customer analytics and Ruya AI, a private employee assistant built on ruya’s internal knowledge base.

The unified structure is designed to compress the time it takes to bring new capabilities to the public. New AI features are intended to move into production in weeks rather than months. The platform also provides auditability for every action carried out through its workflows, alongside role-based access controls, centralized monitoring, cost tracking and audit trails through a common governance layer.

Akhil Koka, CEO of Magure, said in the announcement: “The hardest part is behind us: the platform, the governance and the sovereign foundation are in place. From here, every new capability ships on rails that already exist.” Koka stressed that the AI systems currently operating at ruya are live in production, not functioning as a pilot or demonstration.

MagOneAI incorporates human review through designated task nodes that can pause an AI process for human approval, review or override. Magure holds ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 certifications, as well as SOC 2 Type II attestation, covering quality, information security and AI governance.

Ruya operates open-door branches intended to provide education and support to its community alongside its digital services. Magure, headquartered in the UAE and registered in the DIFC, is based in Dubai with delivery centers in India and a presence in the U.S. The company serves more than 80 enterprise customers across government, financial services, health care and large conglomerates, with more than 60 AI deployments in production. Its technology and deployment partners include NVIDIA, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle and Huawei.

The question that will matter most to the bank’s customers is whether faster processing and smarter service translate into a meaningfully better experience in practice, and whether the human oversight built into every workflow proves robust enough to catch the errors that AI systems, however well governed, can still make.
