Blockbuster Abu Dhabi Festival 2026 Brings World-Class Music and Arts to City Venues

Abu Dhabi’s cultural calendar fills up considerably this autumn, with the Abu Dhabi Festival 2026 running from October 10 to December 19 under the theme Wisdom of Culture. Spanning ten weeks and multiple venues across the city, including Etihad Arena, Cultural Foundation, Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Arts Centre at NYU Abu Dhabi, the season offers residents and visitors an unusually broad range of live performance: classical music, opera, ballet, jazz and contemporary world fusion.

The festival opens on home ground. The UAE National Orchestra takes the Etihad Arena stage on October 10 at 8pm in one of its largest productions to date, joined by Georgian pianist David Khrikuli. Hans Zimmer arrives on November 13, also at Etihad Arena at 8:30pm, bringing his The Next Level tour to Abu Dhabi. The German composer, whose scores include The Lion King, Gladiator, Inception, Interstellar and Dune, will present reworked arrangements spanning his career, blending orchestral music with electronic elements and large-scale visuals. It is a deliberate departure from conventional film-score concerts, reimagining familiar material for live performance at scale.

Opera features prominently across the season. On October 17 at The Red Theater in the Arts Centre at NYU Abu Dhabi, American-Canadian soprano Sondra Radvanovsky performs arias and songs by Bellini, Verdi and Puccini, accompanied by Italian-American pianist Vincenzo Scalera. The programme also takes in Rachmaninoff, the Letter scene from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, and three compositions by Richard Strauss, beginning at 8pm.

Meanwhile, dance and experimental fusion anchor the middle weeks of November. The American Ballet Theatre, one of the world’s premier dance companies, performs at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental on November 21 at 8pm. The programme includes Frederick Ashton’s Birthday Offering, Jiri Kylian’s Nuages, Brady Farrar’s Trio Elegiaque and Paquita, staged by Natalia Makarova after Marius Petipa.

Five days later, on November 26 at the same venue, Algarabia brings a cross-cultural production that blends flamenco with Arab poetic traditions. Musicians from Spain’s University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra collaborate with dancers and actors to tell the story of an Arab girl whose intellectual curiosity about ancient botanical theories mirrors a Spanish florist’s reverence for flowers and their scents. The production is one of the season’s more unusual offerings, sitting outside any single genre.

A Verdi Opera Gala on November 29 at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental at 8pm marks 125 years since the composer’s death. Soprano Maria Agresta and tenor Giorgio Berrugi lead a programme drawing from Nabucco, I Vespri Siciliani, Otello and La Traviata, alongside orchestral overtures and duets.

The closing weeks shift toward chamber music and world fusion. Georgian musicians Lisa Batiashvili and Giorgi Gigashvili perform works by Beethoven, Bartok and Franck on December 10 at Cultural Foundation at 8pm, alongside a new composition by Israeli-Georgian composer Josef Bardanashvili. The following evening, Korean-American pianist Minsoo Sohn presents Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier at the same venue at 8pm, working through all 24 preludes and fugues from the first book and exploring both their pedagogical and emotional dimensions.

The season closes on December 19 at Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Auditorium Plaza at 8pm. Tunisian oud master and vocalist Dhafer Youssef performs with his quintet, drawing on his practice of merging jazz principles with Arab, North African, European classical, Turkish and Indian musical traditions, often incorporating electronic textures. He is expected to perform material from his latest album Shiraz, described as his most personal work, centred on his relationship with filmmaker Shiraz Fradi.
