Residents Rush Dubai Tourism Scheme: 10,000 Apply in Two Days, Straining Resources

Overwhelming demand forces tourism authority to expand reward capacity

Dubai residents flooded the Dubai Invite portal with more than 10,000 applications in the first 48 hours after launch, a response so swift it forced the Department of Economy and Tourism to reconsider how many reward packages it can realistically deliver.

The program gives UAE residents a direct stake in the emirate’s tourism push. Any resident aged 18 or above holding a valid Emirates ID can nominate friends or family living outside the UAE to visit. Once a nominated visitor arrives and clears Dubai’s border systems, the resident receives a reward package by email within 72 hours. Those packages, valued at more than AED3,000 (approximately $817), bundle accommodation, dining, attractions, and transport through a network of participating partners.

The mechanics are simple enough. Residents submit nominations through an online portal before their guests arrive. Eligible visitors must enter on a tourist visa or through the visa-on-arrival program. Each resident can claim up to three reward packages, though they may keep inviting guests beyond that limit without receiving further incentives.

Noor Algeziry, Associate Vice President for MENA and Special Projects at the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, called the response overwhelming. Speaking on Dubai Eye’s Business Breakfast, Algeziry confirmed that while the department had set an initial cap on available packages, it is now reassessing that limit given demand that far exceeded projections.

What changed, in practical terms, is that the program’s reach now depends on how quickly authorities can expand supply. The department’s ability to unlock additional packages will determine how many of those 10,000-plus applicants ultimately benefit before the campaign closes on October 31. Reward packages remain valid through December 31, unless individual partner offers expire sooner.

Participating hospitality brands include W Dubai Mina Seyahi, The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi, Le Méridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Waterpark, and Meliá Desert Palm. Transport partners Careem and Hala are also part of the scheme, alongside IHG Hotels and Resorts.

The Dubai Invite program runs alongside Dubai Summer Surprises 2026, a parallel campaign active through August 30 that offers retail discounts reaching 90%, meal deals priced at AED10 (approximately $2.72), concerts, and family entertainment. Together, the two initiatives target the summer and autumn travel window, traditionally a slower period for inbound tourism.

The backdrop is a sector already showing strong momentum. Dubai welcomed 19.59 million international overnight visitors in 2025, a 5% increase from 18.72 million the year before. December 2025 and January 2026 each drew more than 2 million visitors.

The surge in applications signals genuine enthusiasm among residents to participate, but it also raises a practical question the department has not yet answered publicly: how many additional packages can it actually commit to, and how soon?
